When you rent a storage unit, you really want to make sure that you make the most of the space that you are given. You can make the most of the space by packing up your items in a strategic manner to maximize space.

1. Use Shelving

Just because you are putting items in a storage unit doesn't mean you have to stack everything up on top of one another. Use regular organizing tacks to keep your storage unit space usable.

Use metal shelving for your boxes. This will make it easier to pull boxes in and out of your storage unit. Metal shelving will also keep your boxes safe; stacking a bunch of boxes on top of one another could lead to some of your boxes getting crushed. Shelving will help protect your boxes and make them easier to access.

2. Put Heavy Items on the Bottom

Next, you want to take care as to how to stack your belongings. If you are using shelving, put the heaviest items on the lowest shelf. For any areas where you just stacking up items, the heaviest boxes should go on the bottom. This will help you create a strong base. This will also help ensure that nothing gets unnecessarily crushed or damaged.

3. Create an Aisle

As you put items in your storage unit, you are going to want to make sure that you have room to move around. This is important if your storage unit is bigger than a small closet. You are going to want to have space to walk around and to pull items out of your storage unit. Create an open aisle that will give you the room you need to move around.

4. Create a Map

You may remember where you put everything today, but you may not remember where everything is five months or a year from now. That is why you should create a map that allows you to see where you stored everything. It will be easier to navigate the storage unit and get out what you need later. This should serve as both a map and an inventory list that will help you find what you need.

With a storage unit, you want to make sure you use the space wisely. Using shelving, putting heavy items on the bottom, creating an aisle, and using a map will help you successfully navigate your storage unit.
